REGEN3.3 Numerical Analysis Software for Regenerators

REGEN3.3 is a Fortran program that models helium flow and heat transfer in regenerators of the type used in cryocoolers. It was developed at NIST by Dr. John Gary, and updated by Abbie O'Gallagher. It has been widely used by designers and researches in industry and academia. The code was last updated in 2009.

This free NIST software can be used to calculate performance of regenerators in regenerative cycle cryocoolers. It includes options for selecting either helium-4 or helium-3 working fluids and 30 regenerator matrix materials, including layers.
