ABSTRACT
Micellization behavior of aqueous solutions of N-ethyl-N,N-dimethyl-1-hexadecanaminium bromide in the presence of electrolyte sodium bromide, NaBr, was studied at different temperatures. The characterization of the surfactant solutions was done in two electrolytic concentrations of NaBr [(0.001 and 0.005) mol*kg 1] using density, viscosity, ultrasound velocity, and conductivity measurements. Several physicochemical parameters like density, apparent molar volume, ultrasound velocity, isoentropic compressibility, viscosity, Vand and Einstein hydration parameters, conductivity, and thermodynamic parameters were evaluated and compared with the corresponding parameters in aqueous solutions of the surfactant in the absence of electrolyte. In general critical micellar concentration exhibited a decrease in magnitude, apparent molar volumes exhibited an increase in magnitude, and degrees of hydration were lowered upon the addition of salt. Enthalpy of micellization registered a significant decrease in magnitude upon addition of salt and an increase in magnitude with increase in temperature.
