Excess Molar Enthalpies and Hydrogen Bonding in Binary Mixtures Containing Ethers and Benzyl Alcohol at 308.15 K and Atmospheric Pressure

ABSTRACT
Excess molar enthalpies, Hm E , of binary liquid mixtures containing dibutyl ether, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, ethylene glycol dimethyl ether, ethylene glycol diethyl ether, diethylene glycol ethyl ether, diethylene glycol diethyl ether, or triethylene glycol monoethyl ether + benzyl alcohol have been measured over the entire range of composition at 308.15 K and at atmospheric pressure using a flow microcalorimeter. Data were fitted to the Redlich-Kister equation. The results show how the enthalpy of mixing is influenced by both the steric and electronic characteristic of the terminal groups that belong to the OP ) [CH2OCH2] central unit of the ether and by the hydrogen bonding.
