ABSTRACT
The solubilities of anthracene in (1-x) water + x ethanol and (1-x) water + x t-butyl alcohol mixtures (mole fractions of alcohol, x, from 0 to 0.8 ) have been determined at four different temperatures, 298.15 K, 303.15 K, 308.15 K, 313.15 K, respectively. From the solubility data, the values of thermodynamic functions for the transfer of anthracene from water to (1-x) water + x ethanol or to (1-x) water + x t-butyl alcohol mixtures were derived. The results are discussed on the basis of the sign of transfer functions and in terms of solute-solvent interactions.
