ABSTRACT
Surface tensions, , for binary mixtures of water and ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (2-methoxyethanol, C3H7O2; C1E1), diethylene glycol monomethyl ether (2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethanol, C5H12O3; C1E2), triethylene glycol monomethyl ether [2-{2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethoxy}ethanol, C7H16O4; C1E3), and ethylene glycol dimethyl ether (1,2-dimethoxyethane, C4H10O2; C1E1C1) are measured over the whole composition range. Measurements were made under atmospheric pressure at (298.15, 308.15, and 318.15) K. The experimental data have been used to calculate the surface tension deviations, , as a function of mole fractions, and values obtained are fitted to the Redlich-Kister polynomial equation to obtain the binary coefficients and the standard errors. The temperature dependence of at fixed compositions of solution was used to estimate surface enthalpy, H, and surface entropy, S. Also, the molar surface energies, E, have been deduced at 298.15 K using experimental surface tension data.
