Liquid-Liquid Equilibrium Data for Ternary Systems Containing Alkanes (n-Pentane, n-Hexane, n-Heptane, and n-Octane) + Alcohol (Methanol and Ethanol) + Protic Ionic Liquid (2-HEAF)

ABSTRACT
Azeotropic mixtures can occur in alcohols and alkanes systems because of close boiling points of these components and highly nonideal interaction molecular forces, leading to vapor-liquid coexistence envelopes with maximum-pressure. For this reason, it could be interesting from the academic and industrial points of view to find appropriate solvents for separation process. Recently, protic ionic liquid (PIL) is presented as an interesting alternative. This work reports liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data for ternary systems of alkanes (n-pentane, n-hexane, n-heptane, and n-octane) + alcohol (methanol or ethanol) + protic ionic liquid 2-hydroxyethanolamine formate (2-HEAF) at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure (101.3 kPa). Distribution coefficient () and selectivity parameter (S) data were used to evaluate the extractor potential of ionic liquid to separate alcohol from alkanes. Tie-line data were correlated with Non-Random Two Liquid (NRTL) activity coefficient model presenting a mean global deviation error of 0.9499 %.
