Liquid-Liquid Equilibria for Ternary Systems of (Ethyl Methyl Carbonate + Methanol or Ethanol + Water) at 293.15, 303.15, and 308.15 K

ABSTRACT
Liquid-liquid equilibria (LLE) data were determined for ternary systems of {water + methanol + ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC)} and (water + ethanol + EMC) at 293.15, 303.15, and 308.15 K at 101 kPa. The LLE data were correlated by using modified and extended UNIQUAC models, with average root-mean-square deviations of 0.96 % and 1.45 % in mole fraction, respectively. Moreover, optimum binary interaction parameters of (methanol or ethanol + EMC) were obtained by regression of the ternary LLE data. Consistency of the experimental LLE data was further ascertained by applying Bachman equation. Distribution coefficients and separation factors were used to assess extraction performance of EMC in the extraction of methanol and ethanol from aqueous solutions.
