Measurement and Correlation of the Thermal Conductivity of 1,1,1,2,2,4,5,5,5-Nonafluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-3-pentanone

ABSTRACT
New experimental data on the thermal conductivity of 1,1,1,2,2,4,5,5,5- Nonafluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-3-pentanone (Novec 649) are reported that allow the development of wide-range correlations. These new experimental data, obtained with transient hot-wire apparatus and covering a temperature range of 183 K to 501 K at pressures from 0.02 MPa to 69 MPa, are used to develop a correlation for the thermal conductivity. The experimental data reported here have an uncertainty of 1 % for liquid and supercritical regions (density greater than 600 kg*m-3), 1.5 % for vapor and supercritical regions (pressure = 1 MPa and density less than 200 kg*m-3), 3 % for supercritical states (200 kg*m-3 = density = 600 kg*m-3), and 3 % for vapor and supercritical states (pressure less than 1 MPa). Based on the uncertainty of and comparisons with the present data, the thermal- conductivity correlation is estimated to have a relative expanded uncertainty ranging at a 95 % confidence level from approximately 1 % to 4 %, depending on the temperature and pressure, with larger uncertainties in the critical region.
