Solubilities of 1,3-dimethyl-1,1,3,3-tetraphenyldisiloxane in different solvents from (288.15 to 313.15) K

ABSTRACT
The saturated solution of 1,3-dimethyl-1,1,3,3-tetraphenyldisiloxane in methanol, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, propanol and octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane from (288.15 to 313.15) K was prepared by an isothermal method and the solubility data were obtained from their respective density and the index of refraction calibration curves. The results show that the solubility of 1,3-dimethyl-1,1,3,3- tetraphenyldisiloxane in the five solvents increases with increasing temperature. Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane is the most suitable solvent for crystallization of 1,3-dimethyl-1,1,3,3- tetraphenyldisiloxane from solution. The experimental solubility data were correlated by the modified Apelblat equation, the van't Hoff plot, and lambda-h (Buchowski) equation. The results derived from the modified Apelblat equation were better than those derived from the van't Hoff plot and lambda-h equation.
