ABSTRACT
In this experimental work, the oxygen concentration electrochemical galvanic cell of the type (-) Pt|Pt(s), PtTe(s), TeO2(s,l)|YSZ|O2(g)|Pt (+) was applied to determine the thermodynamic properties of intermetallic platinum monotelluride PtTe. Yttria-stabilized zirconia solid electrolyte was utilized as a fast oxygen ion conductor. The repeatability of the experimental results was ensured by conducting three identical runs in stepwise heating and cooling cycles. The standard Gibbs energy of formation of PtTe was determined for the first time in the temperature range from (890 to 998) K to be: DfG /(kJ mol-1) = -73.54 + 28.57.10-3 .T/K: The enthalpy of fusion and melting temperature of tellurium dioxide TeO2 were redetermined.
