ABSTRACT
Experimental dataoverthetemperaturerangefrom268to365Karepresentedonthe0.1MPadensity and surfacetensionforthree1-Cn-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphateswith n = 5,7,and9.In addition, experimentaldataonsurfacetensiondependenceontemperaturearepresentedforhexaflu- orophosphates with[C3MIM], [C4MMIM] and[C4MPy] cation.Foralloftheseionicliquidsthereexists only sporadicdatasetsortheyhavenotyetbeenstudiedatallinthesetworespects.Thereportedden- sity datawereobtainedusingasingle-sinkerbuoyancymethod.Theexpandedcombineduncertaintyat 0.95 confidencelevelinthedensityandsurfacetensionmeasurementsisestimatedtobe,respectively, from 0.3to0.7kgm-3 and from0.05to0.07mNm-1. Todeterminethebuoyancyandsurfaceforces, the Kru1/2 ss K100MK2tensiometerwasused.Agroupcontributionmodelisproposedtogeneraterecom- mended valuesofdensityat0.1MPafor1-Cn-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphateswith n = 2 9 at temperaturesfrom273to365K.Theworth-caserelativeerroroftherecommendeddensityvaluesis estimated to0.1%.Thehomologousseriesoftheimidazolium-basedhexafluorophosphatesshowsstatis- tically discernibleodd-eveneffectsinthemolarvolume,andinenthalpyandentropyofsurfaceformation at theleveloftheorderofmagnitudeof10-1 cm3mol-1, 100 mJm-2 and 10-3 mJm-2K-1, respectively.
